The AIUDF and Its Electoral Performances in Assam Politics

Abstract

Md. Nasirul Hoque Abstract: The All India United Democratic Front ( known as AIUDF) is a state political party which originated in Assam. The leader of the party is Moulana Badaruddin Ajmal who is the Member of Parliament at present. The Headquarter of the party is located in Guwahati. Moulana Badaruddin Ajmal established this party on 3rd October, 2005. On 3nd October 2005, just a few months before the 2006 Assam Assembly election, Maulana Badruddin Ajmal supported by 18 NGO’s formed a political party named Assam United Democratic Front (AUDF). Latter he re-launched the party in other states of India through a press meet in New Delhi on 2nd February 2009. Since then this party is known as AIUDF. The AIUDF has been playing a significant role in the electoral politics of Assam. In this paper an attempt is made to focus on the causes of origin of AIUDF and its electoral performances.
